I wanted to go to the super cool Donovan House in DC all summer long. I never made it. I wanted to go lounge on the rooftop by the pool and watch all the boys in their bathing suits (sorry baby…).  When I first heard of it, I was reminded of the SoHo house in NYC, where my old boss used to tell me about his celebrity sightings to impress me. Britney Spears? (The barefoot gas station Britney…) Yeah, I’m falling off my chair. You are soooo cool. But Donovan House seemed to be less scene-y and more laid back. Which is actually, a good comparison of DC versus NYC anyways… And food? The restaurant in Donovan House was always mentioned with rave reviews. And now they are introducing a tasting menu. Amazing!!


Washington, D.C. (October 17, 2011) — ZENTAN, situated within the ultra-chic Donovan House a Thompson Hotel at 1155 14th Street, NW, is pleased to debut a tempting $85 per person Chef’s Tasting menu. With seasonal recipes created by renowned Chef Susur Lee, which are artfully prepared by Executive Chef Jaime Montes De Oca, this new dinner option at ZENTAN begins October 19, 2011. It is available exclusively on Wednesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the 45-seat private dining room, and is priced at $85 per person with wine pairings (exclusive of tax and gratuity).

The tempting five-course Chef’s Tasting menu begins with appetizers such as Escolar with pickled jalapeño, jicama and a shallot-sesame dressing, and Chicken Consommé with winter melon, dried ham and Goji berry.  Stellar entrées include Slow Cooked Salmon with celery root apples and white soy cream and Creekstone Farms Short Ribs with spicy bok choy and Yukon gold potato puree.  For the perfect ending, guests will enjoy the Five-Spice Apple Tart with salted caramel gelato

Executive Chef Jaime Montes De Oca, Jr. brings a solid history of fine dining experience to the restaurant having cooked at prestigious hotels such as The Plaza, The Ritz Carlton and The Waldorf-Astoria.  Celebrity Chef Susur Lee tapped Jamie to relocate to Washington to help him open ZENTAN in 2009, after Montes De Oca collaborated with him successfully in New York at Shang.  He has also held posts at some of the most reputable New York eateries such as Gramercy Park Hotel and Tocqueville where his focus was creating modern American cuisine driven by green market produce.  Throughout his culinary career, Montes de Oca has learned from acclaimed chefs such as Laurent Manrique, George Mendes and Jean-Geoges Vongerichten.  He is a 1990 graduate of New York Restaurant School.

Famed Chef Susur Lee introduces DC diners to his inventive global Asian cuisine with ZENTAN, located in Donovan House – a Thompson Hotel (1155 14th Street, N.W.).
